“For faith to thrive, our concepts of God must adapt to our evolving scientific knowledge.”
Seems to me this is an inherent flaw in thinking about theology. Faith, god, words, do not evolve, they stay the same, that’s what makes them true. If I write a book now, its meaning should not change whether I read it now or a million years from now. If I believe in a god now, why should I believe in a different god later in life, simply because science is slowly disproving the existence of such a god.
I have no problem with people of strong faiths. I do however have a problem with people who, in an effort to seem sane, say they believe the bible serves as a metaphor and should not be read literally. I’m sorry bit if you believe the bible you need to take it for everything it has, talking snakes and all. Can’t cherry pick what you want from it, you either believe it or not, otherwise its just the best selling fiction book of all time.
